ABSTRACT

Within a vibrant business ecosystem, innovations are constantly metamorphosing into a determinant for survival and generating a competitive advantage in the market. This course is frequently becoming apparent in a pandemic as especially SMEs have been obliged to change the business model to survive. One of these models is the open innovation model. This is welcome, especially in cross-border areas, where the cooperation with external partners, spreads beyond national borders. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cross-border cooperation of innovative SMEs in the field of implementation of open innovations, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises in the border regions Cieszyn Silesia and Beskydy in Poland and the Czech Republic. The surveyed innovative SMEs understand and implement the idea of open innovations to create innovative projects, especially of a process nature (because they cooperate with external entities in the process of creating innovations). Concerning the geographic positions of regions, the range of the geographic impact of innovations arising in the open model of innovations is transnational. The main common feature is that even though both parties display signs of open innovation, the open innovation model is not part of their innovation strategy.

ABSTRACT

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, companies, not only in the cultural management, and their employees had to cope with a number of changes, and people faced new challenges, not only in the workplace. However, remote work has become a pandemic phenomenon. The aim of the article was to analyse the experience with remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 in Enterprises on the examples of Czech Republic and in worldwide cultural management, i.e. to prepare the state-of-the-art report and, based on the report, to present recommendations for remote work in the future. The methodology process was that at first, the secondary data were obtained by selection and content analysis of 475 quantitative and qualitative print and virtual information published on the topic of pandemic impact. Then through search, comparison and synthesis, an insight into the major changes that have occurred in working life due to the pandemic has been gained. Based on induction, deduction and the authors' own experience, recommendations were then made for the future use of remote work. Amongst the findings of the article is a comprehensive view of the experience with the remote work phenomenon, its positives and negatives, as well as a description of particular effects of coronavirus pandemics on both employers and employees. The discussion then covers the recommendations on how to better face and cope with these situations in the future, not only in our conditions but also in conditions of similar economies. © 2022, Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. ABSTRACT

Through a dynamic business environment, innovations are frequently transforming into a crucial determinant in improving and creating competitive advantage and the survival of an enterprise on the market. In times of pandemic, this trend is becoming increasingly apparent as various enterprises, especially SMEs, have been forced to modify the business model to survive. This paper aims to evaluate the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on the strategic management of innovation in SMEs in Poland and the Czech Republic, as two regions similar economically and historically. Through research in SMEs in both countries, the evaluation of the rate of change caused by a pandemic and the main problems in innovative business management were identified. Based on the obtained data, the surveyed companies were divided into four groups according to innovation potential, which will offer a further international comparison. © Proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Strategic Management and its Support by Information Systems 2021, SMSIS 2021.
